Shout Action

On Monday evenings until June 25th we are writing and shooting a film at Spring Bank Arts Centre, with help from Matt Kowalczuk (Community Arts Northwest) and some young drama students from New Mills School.

At the intro session people learnt some technical skills and tried their first acting to camera…

A second group are joining from Monday 14th May to work on the soundtrack:

The group at Revival Church will be writing, recording and producing a sound track for the film, and the two groups will stay in touch, sharing material via the webtool, mentioned above, ‘Prezi’.

How to use Prezi: Click on the play arrow to load the Prezi and then zoom in and out with the – and + on the righthand side; drag it with the mouse and click on items that look interesting. You can also use the < and > arrows to move through the Prezi in a more traditional way.

Handmade Cards

Participants have made a series of stunning greetings cards from lino prints the Buxton group did in Autumn 2011. These can be bought for £2 each or three for £5. They are on sale at New Mills Original, or can be bought at our events.

Fairfield Archway and Seating

The group has been working with artist Caroline Chouler -Tissier and Leander Architectural to create sculptured aluminium and steel seating for outside the shops in Fairfield, and an archway for the Granby Road Park in Fairfield. The design for the ‘banner’ of the archway and the five seats (in plasticine to be cast in aluminium) are now complete and look fantastic. Caroline also worked with the Fairfield Dream scheme youngsters and some adults from ROFA to design the central ‘hub’ of the seating, and one seat. The work is now being cast at the foundry. Ancient Landscapes Project

Ancient Landscapes Project.

The Buxton group are working with artists from ‘Stone and Water’, to explore the geology of the Peak District and create an installation from crochet, knitting and building coral reefs out of wool, and other reef fauna using a variety of textiles. The project is in collaboration with Borderland Voices, an arts and health project in Leek, who are also working on the installation. The New Mills Project eARTh group have also worked on this, and the work of all three groups will form the final installation – see it as part of the Buxton Art Trail on July 7th / 8th and in New Mills Library as part of nEw Mills Festival from September 15th to 30th.

Human Sundial and Time Capsule

The ceramic and aluminium human sundial can be found in High Lee Park, off St. Mary’s Road, New Mills, Sk22 3BW.

The sun dial is just outside High Lee Hall, near the giant horse chestnut tree, with a plaque that explains how to use it to tell the time.

The time capsule is buried nearby, with details lodged with the International Time Capsule Society at Oglethorpe University, Alabama, USA, New Mills Town Council, and all 6 New Mills primary schools. It is to be dug up in 2061.
