Tales in a Tent
High Peak Community Arts has been busy for the past couple of months making a 16 foot Yurt to house our Tales in a Tent Tour. Working alongside Woodcraft Artist Alistair Hayhurst, and together with people from Bamford, we have been stripping willow, bending wood and generally learning the art of Yurt making. Now it is completed and we have used it for a number of events around the High Peak during June. Storytellers Christine McMahon, Sally Tonge, Shonaleigh and singer/songwriter Claire Mooney have been working in Peak Dale, New Mills, Whaley Bridge and Glossop respectively. Artist Jill Kerr has been running arts activities during the Peak Dale and Whaley Bridge events.

POSITIVE IMAGES – AN EXHIBITION OF ART WORK ON COASTERS
In early June you will be able to see brightly coloured coasters in cafes, pubs, and community venues across the High Peak.
Over 60 venues have gladly agreed to use some of the 3,000 circular cardboard coasters, which were designed by disabled members of High Peak Community Arts. Over the winter, two community artists worked with seventeen disabled people, carers, a support worker from Leonard Cheshire, and a volunteer, in a twelve week project involving mono printing, painting, drawing, felt making, and silk painting. The group then chose their favourite designs, to create twelve different mats, with designs on both sides. Now summer is on the way, and the coasters are ready to be enjoyed, as people sip a cool drink, a cappuccino, or a cup of tea.
Please give us some feedback on the coasters ! We’d love to hear what you think of them. Contact Alison , by email at alison@highpeakarts.org or by phone 01663 744516.
